J-CHECK (Japan CHEmicals Collaborative Knowledge Database) is a comprehensive, publicly accessible database developed by the Japanese government to provide safety and regulatory information on chemical substances, managed by the National Institute of Technology and Evaluation (NITE).

It serves as a key information repository for the Chemical Substances Control Law (CSCL), providing data gathered through government surveys and collaborative programs. Key Features and Information

Purpose: To enhance chemical safety information infrastructure and provide data on regulatory classifications.

CSCL Data: Contains detailed information about the “Act on the Evaluation of Chemical Substances and Regulation of Their Manufacture, etc.”.

Safety Data: Provides chemical safety information obtained from existing chemicals survey programs and the Japan HPV Challenge Program.

Search Capabilities: Users can search by CAS Registry Number, MITI number, chemical name (exact/substructure), or by drawing chemical structures.

International Cooperation: J-CHECK is linked with the OECD eChemPortal, making Japanese chemical data accessible internationally. Regulatory Scope (Pre- and Post-2009 Amendment)

J-CHECK covers various classifications under the CSCL, including:

Class I Specified Chemical Substances: Highly hazardous substances.

Class II Specified Chemical Substances: Monitored substances. Monitoring Chemical Substances: Types I, II, and III.

The database is a collaborative effort between the Ministry of the Environment (MOE), Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW), and Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI). J-CHECK(English) – NITE
